The department’s faculty members and research teams share common themes that relate to human biology, in a broader sense: cell–tissue interactions in human physiology (as a basis for human function), understanding the basic mechanisms of disease processes (patho-physiology), or the development of novel treatment options by manipulating cell signaling and cell-tissue interactions. These lines of research thus relate to cancer biology, cell-signaling and immunology, normal development and aging, as well as to normal physiological functions at the molecular, cellular, or tissue-systems levels.
